The reverse fixture at the Mestalla produced a thrilling five goal first half in which Leo Messi scored his first hat-trick of the season. But the game wasn't as easy as it sounds as Hélder Postiga scored two goals in three minutes to pull Valencia back into the match meaning Victor Valdés had to produced a couple of crucial saves for Barcelona to win their third league game of the season.

A convincing midweek 5-1 win against Valencia's neighbours Levante, which saw the Catalans progress to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, will mean Barça gone into this game full of confidence. Meanwhile Valencia have gone on a run of five games without a win and conceded seven goals during that period.

A man who will be hoping to find the back of the Valencia net is Lionel Messi. The Argentine hasn't scored a league goal since last September and has turned into a provider more then a scorer in recent games. But it's only a matter of time before Messi starts scoring again and attempts to close the gap in the Pichichi table. As it stands, Messi currently lies in 15th place with 8 goals, alongside Real Madrid's Gareth Bale while Bale's Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo leads the table with 22 goals.

BARCELONA

Midfielders Xavi and Sergio Busquets return to the 18 man squad having missed the game against Levante on Wednesday. Dani Alves also returns to the squad but his Brazilian teammate Neymar isn't included despite training with the team on Friday. Club captain Carles Puyol also misses out as does Martín Montoya. Ibrahim Afellay, Isaac Cuenca, Jonatahan Dos Santos and Oier Olazábal complete the absentee list.

Victor Valdés will return in goal while Marc Bartra and Adriano are likely to be rested having played the whole game midweek. Meaning we're set to see a back four of Jordi Alba, Gerard Piqué, Javier Mascherano and Dani Alves. This should set Barcelona up for a very attacking defence with both Alba and Alves pushing high. That said Alves has been in great form of late and worked the wing brilliantly against Malaga.

In midfield, Cesc Fàbregas played 70 minutes in the cup tie but is still expected to start ahead of Andrés Iniesta, who recently returned from injury. While Xavi is expected to return to the starting lineup. Fàbregas will most likely be the one making the piercing runs into the Valencia box, leaving Xavi to roam around the 40 yard line looking for a quarterback style pass. Sergi Roberto and Iniesta will also be hoping to see some minutes in the second half. In the pivote spot, Sergio Busquets will come in to replace Alex Song.

Up front, Messi will return in the false nine position, choosing which wingers will partner him will be a little less clear cut. All three of Pedro, Alexis and Tello played midweek but the youngster Tello was the only one to complete 90 minutes. Therefore I'm predicting a front three of Pedro, Messi & Alexis.

VALENCIA

Valencia have recently recruited ex-Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita from Dalian Aerbin FC. The Malian made 119 appearances for the Catalans but will not be in the squad to face them. There have been some departures too, Dorlan Pabon, Helder Postiga and Andres Guardado have all left the club. But Valencia have reinforced their attacking options by signing Eduardo Vargas on loan from Napoli. Sergio Canales is out injured while João Pereira is suspended.

BARCELONA

Besides the big change at the top, it's been relatively quiet for FC Barcelona. Dani Alves returns from suspension and should start at right-back. Carles Puyol is out after picking up an injury in midweek, in addition to Andres Iniesta, Alex Song, and Martin Montoya not recovering in time. Oier Olazabal, Neymar, and Jonathan Dos Santos are on the long-term injury list.

On the other hand, Ibrahim Afellay has made the match squad for the second time after his long injury lay-off. Is he still too unfit for even a spot on the bench? Cameroonian prodigy Jean Marie Dongou has also made the squad after making an appearance in the last league game.

Victor Valdes should start in goal as the undisputed #1 after coming back from injury. Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano will be the two defenders in the middle, unless Tata Martino is convinced enough by Marc Bartra. Jordi Alba and Dani Alves will be the two fullbacks, even if the combo may lack balance.

With Song out, Sergio Busquets will start at pivote, with Cesc Fabregas taking up another spot in the middle of the park. Will Xavi start, having played a lot in the past two consecutive games? Since Iniesta, Song, and Dos Santos are out, Sergi Roberto is the only logical option.

Lionel Messi will surely relish the chance to build on an impressive cup game, in which he gave out his first assist hat trick. Pedro Rodriguez, Alexis Sanchez, and Cristian Tello will fight over the two wing spots, the latter buoyed by his first hat trick of his career.

MALAGA

By contrast, Malaga have few on the injured list. Only Weligton is out injured, but it's a big loss for Malaga. He's been a force in the heart of defense despite his advanced age. On the other hand, they have no suspended players.

Caballero will start in goal, with Sergio Sanchez, Vitorino Antunes, and Jesus Gamez joining him in one of the Liga's stronger defenses. Flavio Ferreira is likely to take up Weligton's spot, unless Marcos Angeleri is preferred.

Fernando Tissone is almost a lock to start, with Sergi Dader and Ignacio Camacho taking up the other spot in the midfield two.

Eliseu should play on the left wing, with Duda taking up another spot in the attacking midfield. Samuel could be preferred on the right wing. Fransisco Portillo and Pedro Morales are other options.

Upfront, Roque Santa Cruz should start. The Paraguayan veteran is the team's leading scorer in La Liga. Mounir El Hamdaoui, on loan from Fiorentina, is the other option.

Los Rojiblancos missed the opportunity to go top of La Liga last weekend when they could only muster a draw at home against Sevilla, which means that they sit second on goal difference behind Barcelona.

Vallecano remain in the relegation zone after their 2-0 defeat at Elche last week, which was their fourth defeat in their last six outings.

The visitors come into the match off the back of their narrow success over Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final on Thursday.

Vallecano midfielder Raul Baena will miss out following his red card against Elche, while Adrian will also be absent as he serves a one-match suspension.

Real Madrid will try to keep pace with the top clubs in La Liga with a favorable matchup against Real Betis.
The squad starts the second half of the season three points behind both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. In all likelihood, neither club is going to lose too many matches for the rest of the year, so Real have to remain as perfect as possible.
This should not be too tough of a task against Real Betis, a team that only has two league wins all season. The club has not earned a victory in La Liga since September, and they have lost their last two matches at home.
Still, there is enough talent on the roster to believe they can pull off an upset with the right motivation. The crowd should be full, and the players should respond to give Real Madrid all they can handle in this competitive battle.
Real Madrid have played extremely well as of late, winning six matches in a row going unbeaten since an Oct. 26 loss to Barcelona. It is only natural for players to relax when they see the last-place team on the schedule.
However, manager Carlo Ancelotti recognizes this issue and is staying ahead of it. According to BBC Sport, he told the media, "Some games can throw a curveball and it is important to maintain focus. I don't need to tell my players what they are up against in Betis. They are clever and know what to expect."
Of course, talking about it and actually believing it are different things. The players cannot simply assume they will win; they have to remain aggressive on the pitch to get as many goals as possible.
Otherwise, they will drop points and lose ground on the two clubs they are chasing.
With this in mind, you can expect a full lineup of first-team members ready to dominate on Saturday.

With this result, team of Paco Jemez completed four matches streak without a victory, as they count three defeats and one draw. This means that the team opened the 2014 year being currently at second from the bottom position and in case of a three pointer tonight, they would tie the score with safely placed Celta. They are surely in a need of a victory, as the team wants to make a fresh start tonight, aiming to put an end to four consecutive defeats at home. Coach Jemez has said that whole team is very focused and determined to win, as he will again be able to count at left back Nacho (10/0) who returns from suspension. Midfielder Viera (14/4) is also ready for the game, while central defender Ze Castro (2/0) is expected to stay out of the battle again, as the team also continues to miss out winger Larrivey (16/2) who mostly enters as a substitute player.

Villarreal, on the other side, dominated the field in previous game, but hardly threatened in a proper way as they were twice behind in the scoreline and couldn’t pull out something more positive than a 2:1 defeat at home by Sevilla. Before we get to the obvious, let's give Celta Vigo some credit—the team has actually been better on the road than at home this season, taking nine points on their travels as opposed to seven at their home digs.

So perhaps they won't be intimidated by a date at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to face Real Madrid. Perhaps.

Now that we've addressed that, we can get to the obvious—Los Blancos are massive favorites in this match and really need to ensure all three points in contests like these, as they trail both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid by five points on La Liga's table.
