Chelsea will head to West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday, with a win ensuring they will remain atop the Premier League table as we enter the final third of the season. The away fixture against West Brom has been bad luck for recent Chelsea managers, with both Roberto Di Matteo and Andre Villas-Boas being sacked after losing that game.

Jose Mourinho should feel a bit more comfortable than either of that pair, having gone unbeaten in his last eleven. What's more, Chelsea have only allowed a single goal in 2014, and that was a meaningless consolation prize for a Manchester United team that had already conceded three.

West Brom aren't playing quite as well as Chelsea at the moment, and are quickly working their way into the relegation discussion. In November, Steve Clarke's side came within second of defeating Chelsea at home, before a last second penalty allowed the Blues to escape with a point. Since that disappointment, they've won only once in 15 contests, and have sacked Clarke as well.

In all, Chelsea have won 54, drawn 34, and lost 42 against West Brom. That record stands at 22-16-25 away from Stamford Bridge though, with a -28 GD. We'll be hoping Chelsea can improve on that record tomorrow. Here's everything you need to know ahead of Tuesday's game:

Manchester United vs. Fulham: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Manchester United host Fulham on Sunday hoping to keep pace with their rivals in the race for a top-four position in the Premier League table.

With Tottenham Hotspur facing Everton in the other league fixture on Sunday, David Moyes's outfit can cut the gap with three points against Fulham.

Defender Nemanja Vidic is available after suspension, while Phil Jones could feature after recovering from concussion.

Fulham head coach Rene Meulensteen needs a positive result at Old Trafford to ensure that his team don't lose touch with the rest of the pack at the bottom of the standings.

Meulensteen, who has previously been a part of the backroom staff at United, has won just four of his 15 matches in charge at Craven Cottage, and a 10th defeat could see him come under pressure from the club's owner.

Johnny Heitinga and Kostas Mitroglou, who joined Fulham just before the closure of the January transfer window, are likely to feature in the starting lineup.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Tottenham Hotspur's 0-0 draw with Everton in early November came before the thrashings the team would suffer over the next couple of months.

Including that game, the only loss Tottenham had suffered against a top-four rival to that point was to Arsenal back in September. A tie with Chelsea could have gone either way, and the Goodison Park stalemate was there for Spurs' taking in a first half they dominated.

If the North London club's hopes of genuinely competing with their fellow Champions League chasers were very much alive then, they have subsequently diminished amid the harsh realities of a Premier League winter.

Everton this weekend presents Spurs with a chance to reaffirm their candidacy to be in the highest echelon of the division. A win would not only help keep them well within reach of Liverpool in fourth, it would serve to strengthen confidence further undermined by the recent hammering at the hands of Manchester City.

Last weekend's 1-1 draw with Hull City reiterated the need to do well against teams throughout the division, a task sixth-place Spurs have largely handled well. It is these battles with the best, however, that are definitively looking like deciding their destiny come the end of 2013-14.

The Toffees have fared slightly better in this regard. Roberto Martinez's team beat Chelsea 1-0 and, like Spurs, also beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. Their nine draws (the most of any club in the top 10) have shown they too are some way off the table-topping standards currently being set by Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Looking back on the previous meeting between Sunday's opponents at the Spurs' official website, Christian Eriksen said:

Last time we started really well and I think in the first half we should have been in front.

Then they got into the game but we still had our chances, especially in the first half when we played really good. So I think there are possibilities this time to make our chances count.

Plenty has gone on since then, of course, but Spurs should take from that match a belief they are capable of beating Everton. Tim Sherwood is certainly stressing as much, telling the club's official Twitter page:

Norwich City vs. Manchester City: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Norwich City will have to be wary of a Manchester City response when they welcome the Premier League favourites to Carrow Road on Saturday.

The Citizens were undone by a Jose Mourinho tactical masterclass earlier this week, as Chelsea inflicted on them a first home defeat of the season, and ended their 20-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Norwich know first hand, though, how dangerous Manuel Pellegrini's men can be, having been on the end of a 7-0 thumping at Eastlands in November, and it may be a case of Chelsea having angered the beast.

However, City are without several key names, with none of Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho or Samir Nasri expected to feature again this month. Javi Garcia could be back in contention to start in East Anglia, but, if not, centre-back Martin Demichelis is likely to continue to deputise in a holding midfield role.

Stevan Jovetic, a £22m arrival from Fiorentina in the summer, has made substitute appearances in City's last four matches, but Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko will probably be paired together up front again.

Canaries boss Chris Hughton persisted with two strikers in the loss to Cardiff City last weekend, although it was Johan Elmander and not record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel who partnered Gary Hooper.

Hooper may go it alone against City, though, if Hughton chooses to reinforce his midfield with an extra body. Dutch international Leroy Fer could be restored in the centre of the park, while Nathan Redmond's pace on the counter attack is an option that may be considered ahead of Jonas Gutierrez.

City are currently two points adrift of league leaders Arsenal at the top of the table, while Norwich are the same distance away from the relegation zone and currently occupy 15th position.

Albion's James Morrison fends off Man City's Fernandinho
James Morrison should be fit to play at Palace after missing last Sunday’s draw with Liverpool with a tight calf, more as a precaution than anything else.

Albion have a poor record against Tony Pulis’ sides but they have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks.

For all the horrors of their defending at Villa Park, Albion attacked well.

The same for last Sunday’s televised game against the Reds at The Hawthorns.

Ben Foster will continue in goal for the visitors.

Claudio Yacob and Youssouf Mulumbu can expect to keep their places, with Morrison set to feature somewhere at Selhurst Park – probably at the expense of either Saido Berahino or Matej Vydra.

And Thievy Boufima could make his debut for the club. Mel plans to name him on the bench.

Craig Dawson will replace Jonas Olsson.

The head always said Dawson but you got the feeling Diego Lugano would get the nod to replace the Swede, whose hamstring injury is expected to keep him out for another week at least.

Lugano played reasonably well when he came on for Olsson in last weekend’s game with Liverpool but Crystal Palace’s strengths call for different qualities – hence why Dawson gets the nod.

Sunderland will look to extend their Barclays Premier League winning run to three when they welcome Hull City to the Stadium of Light.
The Tigers, managed by former Black Cats boss Steve Bruce, have never won at the Stadium of Light and tend to struggle against the Wearsiders, with Sunderland winning six of the last seven meetings between the two sides.
2014 has been kind to the Black Cats, with Gus Poyet’s side picking up more points than any other Barclays Premier League side outside the top four (10).
In contrast, Bruce’s Hull have struggled to build on their excellent start to the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League campaign with the Humberside outfit the only top-flight side yet to win in the calendar year having scored just once in their opening five league games in 2014.
Sunderland head coach Poyet, who scored the only hat-trick of his career in English football against the Tigers in a 6-1 FA Cup victory with Chelsea at Boothferry Park back in 1999, has mirrored the start of former manager Martin O’Neill in his opening 23 games in charge with 12 wins, five draws and six defeats under his tenure.
Only four players remain from the last time the two clubs met on Wearside in 2009 with Lee Cattermole, Phil Bardsley and Paul McShane continuing with their respective clubs whilst then Hull striker Jozy Altidore is currently in his first season on Wearside.
Liam Bridcutt, who made his Black Cats debut in last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Newcastle United, could make his first appearance at the Stadium of Light whilst Ignacio Scocco could make his Sunderland debut.
Keiren Westwood remains Gus Poyet’s only long-term absentee whilst Hull will be without James Chester, though Joe Dudgeon and Sone Aluko are close to a return from their respective injuries.
Saturday’s match will be the 36th meeting between the two sides in all competitions with the Black Cats succeeding on 19 occasions compared to the Tigers’ 11 wins whilst there have also been five draws.
Sunderland could potentially move into the top half with a win, should other results go in their favour, with 13th-placed Hull also looking to move into the top ten with three points.

Southampton vs. Stoke City: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

When Southampton and Stoke City met earlier in the season, Potters goalkeeper Asmir Begovic scored from his own area within 13 seconds of the kickoff.

After one of the most bizarre starts to a game in Premier League history, the Saints came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in a very blustery Staffordshire.

Only two clubs have tasted top-flight victories at the Britannia Stadium this season, but Southampton are beginning to rediscover the form that took the division by storm at the start of the campaign.

A convincing 3-0 win at Fulham last weekend marked a sixth game without defeat for Mauricio Pochettino's side, a run during which they have found the net 15 times through eight different goalscorers.

However, Stoke will also be full of confidence following their Charlie Adam-inspired 2-1 success over Manchester United last Saturday, a result which ended a four-match losing run in all competitions.

Marko Arnautovic and Jonathan Walters are expected to shake off injuries to maintain their places in the Stoke starting XI, but Oussama Assaidi is on standby should either of them fail to recover from knocks.

Steven N'Zonzi is back from suspension and may replace Glenn Whelan in the centre of midfield.

Robert Huth, Andy Wilkinson and Matthew Etherington will definitely miss out, though, while January signings Stephen Ireland and John Guidetti will both likely have to make do with places on the bench.

Southampton's Victor Wanyama eased his way back to fitness with 45 minutes against Fulham and he again could start at St Mary's Stadium despite Jack Cork impressing in his two-month absence.

Another Saint in form is Adam Lallana, who has scored four goals in his last five games. Pochettino does not have the option of playing Gaston Ramirez alongside his skipper in midfield, with the Uruguayan, and centre-back Dejan Lovren, both sidelined with ankle ligament problems.

Nathaniel Clyne may be restored at right-back if Calum Chambers fails a fitness test on his thigh strain.

After beating Manchester City on Monday at the Etihad Stadium, Chelsea expectations suddenly intensified for this season no matter how coy wily Blues manager Jose Mourinho tries to dismiss the present situation with cryptic talk of "horses and milk," as quoted by BBC Sport's Phil McNulty.

And it wasn’t necessarily just the reality of being the first team to beat the Sky Blues on their own soil or become the first to hold them scoreless at the Etihad this season but more so the realization that the team may have shored up a real need in defensive midfield with the acquisition of Nemanja Matic—as was born out with his superb play against the almost-always-brilliant Yaya Toure.

Toss in a friendly reminder that a defender (Branislav Ivanovic) can always be the hero and come up with the game-winning goal and, quite simply, that Chelsea was finally playing and clicking both offensively and defensively as a team, and you can see why Blues fans are now about as giddy as Toronto mayor Rob Ford at Hershey's Chocolate World during “Chocolate-Covered February.”

Oh, the imagery. There will be thud.

But enough giddiness for Pablo Picasso to possibly start another Blue Period in Heaven? Not so fast, mi hermano. Why Punxsutawney Phil just went back in his hole and it’s not even Valentine’s Day yet, so I’d suggest you quickly slow your little roll there and concentrate on the Blues winning the matches their supposed to win before uttering the phrases “English Premier League champions” or “UEFA Champions League final."

And no silverware is won with three-and-a-half-feet of bleeding snow on the ground anyway. Anywhere. Please don’t overdose on bliss now, Dappy. Santa Claus just arrived home at the North Pole, for God’s sake. We have work to do here. Buckle up.

On Saturday, Chelsea will be playing in one of those matches it will be expected to win from this point on—because of the City win—by management, Mourinho, fans and the players themselves when it welcomes a limping Newcastle United to West London for some tea and a possible swift kick or five in the old shins. Sport.

In their last game on Saturday, Alan Pardew and the eighth-place Magpies were embarrassed by rivals Sunderland as the Black Cats snatched a 3-0 win at St. James’ Park in the Tyne-Wear derby, marking the first time since 1923 that Sunderland has defeated Newcastle three straight times. Woe is thee.

Aston Vila vs. West Ham United: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

West Ham United will make Saturday's Premier League trip to Aston Villa without the suspended Andy Carroll.

The England international forward's appeal to overturn the red card shown to him against Swansea City was turned down by the Football Association this week.

The Hammers are believed to be considering legal action, but in the meantime will have to make do without their £15m record signing, who has only recently returned from a long-term injury layoff.

Villa will have their own talismanic forward available, though, and Christian Benteke is showing signs of rediscovering the form that took him to the top of several European giants' summer shopping lists.

The Belgian powerhouse has scored three goals in his last four matches, helping Villa compensate for the absence of Gabby Agbonlahor, who could return to the fold for the visit of the Hammers.

The Birmingham-born forward faces a late fitness test on the ankle problem that has kept him out of their last two games, and Ron Vlaar is also a doubt after limping off late on in the loss to Everton last weekend.

Paul Lambert may sacrifice Grant Holt to make room for Karim El Ahmadi, if he opts to revert back to 4-3-3. Leandro Bacuna is likely to continue in a more advanced role should Agbonlahor fail to recover.

For the visitors, Carlton Cole and Marco Borriello are in contention to deputise for Carroll in what could be an otherwise unchanged West Ham XI from the one that beat Swansea 2-0 last Saturday.

Transfer-deadline-day signing from Napoli, Pablo Armero, is an option to replace George McCartney at left-back, though. Joe Cole, Joey O'Brien and Mohamed Diame are all unavailable through injury.

Previewing Stoke City vs. Manchester United: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

As the transfer window grinds to its inevitable closure, with a grunt and a groan, attentions turn towards the latest set of fixtures, as transferred players look to make an impression in their new surroundings.

On Saturday, David Moyes takes his Manchester United side to the Britannia Stadium to face Stoke City.

The United Faithful are in a buoyant mood after the capture of Juan Mata, and are keen to see what the skillful midfielder can bring to United's attack.

Stoke currently sit just above the relegation zone, having only scored 22 times this season, per Squawka.

United themselves have also struggled in front of goal, scoring only 38 times from the 230 chances they have created during the season (h/t Squawka.)

However, with the return to fitness of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, United will feel that this is their time to shine, and start their drive towards an automatic Champions League position.

The last four matches between the sides have ended in victories for the Red Devils.

United's Capital One Cup visit to Stoke saw Ashley Young and Patrice Evra both exploit the right-back position, with Stoke dropping too deep. This allowed United into the last third, and score the two goals that took the win.

Here we see the tactical error made by Stoke, which allowed Young to score.

Three central midfielders had attempted to squeeze the space in front of them, keeping a tight line and attempting to suffocate any potential attack.

However, with Chicharito making an effort to play as high up as possible, on the shoulder of the last man, Stoke's defence had retreated too far back, leaving a large zone in front of them completely vulnerable.

There was a similar issue with the second goal of the game, scored by Evra.

Young once again managed to breach any hold that Stoke had in midfield, and made his way deep into the final third, where he was addressed by two defensive opponents.

Cardiff City are trying to climb out of the bottom spot of the table. They place a solid Norwich City squad that sit six points ahead of them but in 12th place.

“I’m not aware of that, so it’s something I will have to investigate,” manager Chris Hughton said about midfielder Wes Hoolahan who called Norwich “a f—— s—house club.”

“I will decide later whether or not he will be in the squad for Saturday’s game at Cardiff. This is an unsettling time for players in his situation. But it’s not the first time we have had to deal with an unsettled player and it won’t be the last.

“Whether or not a player leaves depends on if the club wants to keep him, and at the moment Wes Hoolahan is very much a Norwich player.”

Hull City Tigers vs Tottenham Hotspur: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Tottenham Hotspur may just be relieved that it isn't Manchester City that they are playing this Saturday when they travel to the KC Stadium to face stuttering Hull City.

Ten-man Spurs were hammered 5-1 by the Citizens at White Hart Lane on Wednesday - their first top-flight loss under Tim Sherwood - two months after they were thrashed 6-0 at Eastlands. However, the Lillywhites have fared better against Hull this term.

They edged past Steve Bruce's men 1-0 in the Premier League courtesy of a Roberto Soldado penalty, while spot kicks were needed for them to eventually beat the Tigers in the Capital One Cup fourth round.

The Spaniard, benched for the last two games, could be recalled to Sherwood's starting XI this weekend if the Tottenham manager opts to revert to 4-4-2 and partner him with Emmanuel Adebayor.

Danny Rose's availability wil depend on whether Spurs decide to appeal against the red card that was contentiously handed to him versus City, with Kyle Naughton on standby to deputise at left-back.

Moussa Dembele limped off at half time in midweek and therefore Etienne Capoue could be handed a first start since New Year's Day, if neither Paulinho or Sandro are fit to compete for midfield places.

Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela are likely to be out for a further two weeks, while Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul are closer to returns but may not be considered for starting berths on Saturday.

Hull have lost five Premier League matches in a row to slip from the comfort of the top half of the table to within four points of the relegation zone, with the latest defeat coming at Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

It has also been four games since the Tigers found the net in top-flight competition and so Bruce will be looking to newly-recruited strike force Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic to get them firing again.

Neither have yet to open their accounts for the Lancashire outfit, but are likely to be partnered together on Saturday, with Sone Aluko still sidelined. Defender James Chester is another long-term absentee and goalkeeper Allan McGregor is banned, therefore Steve Harper will take his place between the sticks.

Fulham continue their bid to move out of the relegation zone as they take on Southampton at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

The Cottagers sit 19th in the league and are two points adrift from safety. Having lost the last three Premier League games on the bounce, Rene Meulensteen's men are desperate for the three points.

Fulham have lost loan signing Adel Taarabt to AC Milan, but the Cottagers will hope new arrival Lewis Holtby can make the difference in midfield.

Meanwhile, Saints have just come off the back of a great result against Arsenal, holding the Gunners to a 2-2 draw.

Mauricio Pochettino's men have enjoyed a good season thus far and sit ninth in the league. However, they had a mixed run of Premier League results in January, with draws against Arsenal and Sunderland, a win over West Brom and a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

They will look to build some momentum in the league as Aston Villa begin to close the gap between the Saints and the bottom 11 in the table.

In the first half on Tuesday night, Southampton played as well as I've seen any team play for a long time. They were as good as it gets and absolutely ran Arsenal ragged in the first 45 minutes. Yes, Arsenal didn't get going, but they weren't allowed to get going. So Southampton were great, but let in two goals and didn't win which will be frustrating for them. However, Fulham need a win at home and that plays into Southampton's hands. I'd like to see Fulham get a win to ease the pressure on them at the bottom, but I just think Southampton will do it.

Everton suffered the heaviest loss in the season few days ago, as they visited Liverpool in a local derby and simply were below expected in a 4:0 easy defeat. The team is generally in a very good period at the moment as they are having three home victories in a row and the only problem in front of this game is accumulated number of injuries. Forward Lukaku (19/9) picked up an ankle injury and will be out for this game, same as central defender Distin (20/0) and right defender Coleman (22/5). Injured are also substitutes left back Oviedo (9/2) and forwards Arouna Kone (5/0) and Deulofeu (12/2).

Aston Villa, on the other side, is coming from tough earned 4:3 victory at home over West Brom during the midweek round. In a great first halftime, they managed to bounce back from 0:2 scoreline from ninth minute and even take a 3:2 lead in 37th minute. Even though their visitors equalized just before the halftime whistle, they managed to seal the victory with a winning goal at 64th minute.

From then on, the game got much weaker tempo and the hosts managed to get the three pointer without much problems at the back. That victory was surely a morale booster and much needed one, as the team remained at the safe distance from relegation battle being currently at tenth position with eight points more than relegating worried teams. Winger Agbonlahor (18/3) will probably be out due to foot injury, while the team continue to miss out forward Kozak (14/4) and central defender Okore (3/0). Their starting lineup will probably be quite unchanged to the previous game against West Brom.

Wednesday evening's visit of Manchester City to White Hart Lane will provide Tottenham Hotspur with the chance of some redemption.

Back in November, Spurs were humiliated at the Etihad Stadium as City hit them for six.

Not long after, Andre Villas-Boas was sent packing. Since then, Tim Sherwood has guided the North Londoners through six Premier League fixtures, from which they have collected 16 points.

Last time out against Swansea City, Sherwood reverted to a 4-5-1 formation and he could stick with the same tactics for the visit of City.

That would mean that Emmanuel Adebayor would continue in his role as a lone striker, with the support being provided by the likes of Aaron Lennon and Christian Eriksen.

As for visiting City, they have a doubt over Alvaro Negredo, who is suffering with a shoulder complaint. Should the Spaniard miss out, then Edin Dzeko is likely to partner the fit-again Sergio Aguero in attack.

The Citizens have won just one of their last 10 trips to the Lane, which they achieved in August 2011 courtesy of a 5-1 victory.

Two teams with contrasting recent fortunes meet when Stoke City travel to Sunderland.

While Sunderland appear galvanised under the stewardship of Gus Poyet and have put together a run that consists of just one defeat in their last seven Premier League games, in addition to reaching the Capital One Cup final and the FA Cup fifth round, Stoke are struggling ahead of Wednesday's game.

Mark Hughes’ men continue to be inconsistent on their travels and are aiming to avoid a 10th successive away Premier League game without a win.

Stoke's last victory at Sunderland was a 1-0 success in April 1994 – a winless streak stretching 11 matches.

Perhaps the most telling statistic of all for Stoke could be that Sunderland, who are second bottom, could be within a point of Hughes' men should Poyet's side secure a victory on Wednesday.

Begovic made his comeback from a month out with a broken finger in the 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Chelsea on Sunday and had an immediate impact, producing a string of fine saves.

Odemwingie, meanwhile, is poised to join Stoke as part of the swap deal that should see Kenwyne Jones depart for Cardiff City. Both Cardiff and Stoke will hope to finalise negotiations prior to the midweek Premier League programme.  

Stoke manager Hughes believes striker Odemwingie can help his side become more ruthless in attack.

"He's got a little pace which we need to add to our squad and he can play both wide and through the middle," said the Welshman, who looks set to again be without Robert Huth (knee), Matthew Etherington (calf) and Andy Wilkinson (foot).

Poyet made 10 changes to his Sunderland team for the 1-0 home win over non-league Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup on Saturday, but will be expected to revert back to his strongest XI for the visit of Stoke. Connor Wickham has been recalled from a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday and could be in contention for a place on the bench.

Keiren Westwood (shoulder) and Carlos Cuellar (hip) remain unavailable as Sunderland bid to avenge the 2-0 away defeat they suffered when the two sides met in November.

One Sunderland player who is likely to be at the centre of attention on Wednesday is midfielder Lee Cattermole, who is a confirmed transfer target for Hughes and Stoke.

Pepe Mel insists he already knows the damage Christian Benteke could potentially do to his West Brom side after revealing he previously tried to sign the Aston Villa striker.

The Baggies' new Spanish coach admits he is a long-term admirer of Benteke - and even asked Real Betis to sign him when he was in charge there in 2012.

But Villa eventually won the race for the Belgium international, shelling out £7m to Genk - and Benteke repaid them with 23 goals last term.

After a dip in form, the 23-year-old is back among the goals after scoring in back-to-back games against Arsenal and Liverpool - and Mel is out to ensure he is a marked man in Wednesday night's Midlands derby.

“I actually asked Real Betis to buy Benteke, but he was very expensive! Benteke is a well known player," he said. “We played with a system using wingers and we needed someone in the middle to put the ball in the back of the net - Benteke plays this role very well.”

Nicolas Anelka is, according to Mel, still “99% certain” to be involved as he fights an FA disciplinary charge over his controversial use of the quenelle gesture - which critics argue is anti-Semitic - to celebrate a goal against West Ham last month.

Anelka faces a minimum five-match ban, but can play for Albion until his hearing, which is set for the end of February.

Villa boss Paul Lambert said: “You never condone racism in any shape or form but I don’t want to get into it. I’m here to talk about football, I’m not a politician and I don’t pretend to be one.

“He has been at some fabulous clubs, won the biggest things going and has been terrific player. if you are talking about football he has been terrific.”

Mel has the chance to make himself an instant hero in only his second match in charge by delivering victory over Lambert's Villans, who rallied from 0-2 down to get a point from November's reverse fixture.

FOOTBALL moves on very quickly and no-one can afford to be thinking about the FA Cup when Hull City head to Crystal Palace tomorrow.

Whilst it’s great to be in the last 16 and facing a game against Brighton, City’s bread and butter is the Premier League and they need to ensure they do the business at Selhurst Park.

City will go there with a buzz around the squad after beating Southend, but you’d still expect manager Steve Bruce to make something like eight or nine changes to his starting line-up.

Fortunately for Bruce, he now has players waiting in the wings who are playing well and putting real pressure on him with regards to his team selection. That can only keep everyone on their toes and be good for the club’s hopes of avoiding the drop.

But make no mistake, they are heading to a Palace side which is now looking like it has real belief that they can avoid the drop themselves.

Since Tony Pulis came in as manager they have looked a lot more organised and are a difficult side to beat at home anyway.

Pulis was at the KC Stadium and in the stands when Palace inflicted a 1-0 defeat on the Tigers earlier in the season, but they are now a side which is much more in his mould.

As fans will know from his time at Stoke, he likes his sides to get the ball up to the strikers early and try to play the majority of the game in the opposition’s third.

City will have to be able to deal with that threat, before they can even start to think about getting the ball down and passing it in the manner they prefer.

Palace are coming into the game on the back of a cup defeat by Championship outfit Wigan, the holders, so the two sides could not be more of a contrast in terms of atmosphere.

But with belief running through the camp after the weekend FA Cup win, City will fancy their chances in the capital.

And although it is a bit of a six-pointer, it’s also a great chance to put yourself in an excellent position if you do pick up the victory.

With that in mind, it is a game both clubs will be desperate not to lose, but with Tottenham in the top four race too, and Manchester United potentially coming up on the rails, even a draw would probably be a setback for the Reds and Blues.

Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Martinez will play their strongest available XIs, the make up of which will be heavily dependent on injury news.

Martinez has confirmed that Seamus Coleman will definitely miss the derby, while Sylvain Distin is a doubt.

Should the Frenchman be passed fit, it will probably mean John Stones deputises for Coleman at right-back, but if Distin misses out, Stones could be selected at centre-back ahead of John Heitinga, meaning a place for Tony Hibbert at full-back.

Coleman's absence at right-back may persuade Brendan Rodgers to select Luis Suarez as the nominal left-sided attacker in his Liverpool side, with less emphasis on the player in that position needed to track back and help the Reds' left-back defensively.

That would also allow the Reds boss to give Phillipe Coutinho a break. The Brazilian has started 10 of the last 11 Liverpool games (coming on at half-time in the other, an FA Cup tie with Oldham) and has looked a little jaded in recent weeks.

Rodgers will also be praying that Joe Allen is passed fit, enabling the Welshman to slot in to a midfield three, playing the Lucas holding role, alongside Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson.

Neither Gerrard nor Henderson are truly adept at shielding the Reds back four and Rodgers will also want his team to compete for possession against the Toffees midfield, which will almost certainly contain Gareth Barry and James McCarthy.

Ahead of the Blues' impressive midfield duo, Martinez must decide who will link the play between the middle of the park and Romelu Lukaku.

Being away from home, he may opt for the industry of Leon Osman, with Kevin Mirallas and new boy Aiden McGeady providing ammunition and width, but Steven Pienaar could also feature if passed fit.

Lukaku will fancy his chances against Kolo Toure, although Mamadou Sakho could yet reclaim his place in the Liverpool back four if he proves his fitness.

Jon Flanagan returned from injury as a late sub in the FA Cup win at Bournemouth and may get the nod ahead of Martin Kelly at right-back.

Some Kopites are even hoping Flanagan is selected at left-back ahead of Aly Cissokho.
